Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Workshop

The CT Chapter of IPMA-HR is proud to announce a 3 part series aimed at providing HR professionals with some tools around diversity, equity and inclusion! This series will cause you to think and reflect on your own experiences to help you build and foster an inclusive environment both professionally and personally.

This event is free for current members. Non-members are also welcomed to attend for the low cost of $25 for all 3 sessions or $10 for an individual session. Attendance is not required at all three to benefit from the session as each day will be independent of the other sessions.

April 13th: “Workplace Inclusion” This training session will discuss how to create and foster an environment that is accepting and inclusive for all employees. We will explore techniques for handling workplace conflict and sensitivity. This training will also outline the current EEO laws and regulations that pertain to recruiting and retaining a diversified workforce.
The learning objectives are:

- Increase the consciousness and appreciation of differences within the workplace
- Understand the principal factors for successful recruitment and retention of a diverse workforce
- Foster open communication between management and staff
May 11th: “Cultural Competency” This training session will be an interactive foundational training designed to enhance the cultural knowledge and personal awareness of individuals via introspective study and self-analysis. You will learn to value differences in culture and self-assess personal biases.
Why should you participate in Cultural Competency Training?

- It will help increase your ability to interact effectively with people from different cultures.
- It has 4 components: 1) awareness of one’s own cultural worldview, 2) attitude towards cultural differences, 3) knowledge of different cultuaral practices, 4) cross-cultural studies.
- Cultural competency allows you the ability to understand, communicate with and effectively interact with people across cultures.
The learning objectives are:

- Attain knowledge of cultural differences and its importance in the workplace
- Develop cultural self-awareness
- Develop skills to avoid stereotypes
- Develop strategies to communicate effectively with people across cultures
- Develop a proactive approach to manage culturally sensitive issues
